State Party Membership

Joining is simple - just register Libertarian! That's it!

Okay, okay, Here's the fine print:

There are 2 types of membership

  1. Registered Member

All registered voters in Louisiana officially affilitated with the "Libertarian Party" (LBT on the form) are considered Registered Members of the Libertarian Party of Louisiana. As a member you are eligible to receive all public party mailings and to run for office as a Libertarian.

    • Register as a new voter in Louisiana
    • To change party affiliation or change registered address:
If you have a Louisiana issued Driver's License or Louisiana issued Special ID Card:
Go to the Secretary of State's Website: GeauxVote.com. Click on the "Register to Vote" icon and proceed with the "Register to Vote Online" link. You will be prompted to update your registration if you are already in the system. Change your party affiliation to "Libertarian." (LBT)
*You MUST have a Louisiana issued Driver's License or Louisiana issued Special ID Card to use this online system regardless of your current voter registration status.
      For all other voters:
You can change your party affiliation at your parish Registrar of Voters (PDF download) office, or via postal mail by sending a note to your Registrar of Voters indicating your name, address, and that you wish to change your party affiliation to "Libertarian" along with your signature. You can also file an entirely new voter registration form as described at the above link for registering as a new voter.

There are two options for Registered Members to be more active:

    1. Contributing Member

Contributing Members are those Registered Members who have paid annual membership fees to the LPL. As a contributing member, you are eligble to receive the LPL's quarterly newsletter, attend the LPL annual convention business session free of further charges, and vote on all matters put to the general membership at the convention. Membership fees are $120 per year, $220 for 2 years or $500 for 5 years. For those using online automatic billing, quarterly and monthly payment plans are available for the one-year option only at $30 per quarter or $10 per month. (Signup form coming soon.) Until then, see our Contribute Page for where to snail mail your dues.

    2. Volunteer Member

Registered Members may substitute qualified volunteer time in lieu of monetary payment for LPL membership fees at the rate of 1 hour per $10. (This option is NOT available for the 2 and 5 year membership plans.) Membership fees can be paid in any combination of money and/or WHOLE volunteer hours. (Signup form coming soon.) Send our Secretary an email to let us know you are interested in volunteer work for the LPL.

  2. Associate Member

Anyone not registered to vote as a Libertarian can express their intent to be affiliated with the LPL as an associate member. As an associate member you are eligible to receive all public party mailings, but may not vote on party business, though you can attend any meeting, caucus or convention as a non-voting member. (paying required attendance fees if any) If you are interested in being an Associate Member of the LPL, Send our Secretary an email to let us know and we'll add you to the mailing list!
